Microblading Healing Process: What to Expect Day by Day (And How to Protect Your Investment)
June 10, 2026
Introduction
You have just walked out of your microblading session at GetLashed in Lahore and your brows look absolutely perfect. Then Day 3 arrives and everything changes. They feel itchy, the colour looks darker than expected, and a quiet panic sets in.
Here is the truth: every single one of those changes is completely normal, and understanding them is the difference between loving your results at six weeks and second-guessing the entire experience.
This guide walks you through the microblading healing process day by day — what is happening beneath the skin, what to do, and what to absolutely avoid. Read it once before your appointment and once again when your brows start to flake.
What Is Microblading? A Quick Recap
Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow technique that uses a fine, handheld blade to deposit pigment into the upper dermis of the skin. Unlike traditional tattooing, which goes deeper, microblading creates ultra-thin, hair-like strokes that mimic your natural brow hairs.
At GetLashed Studio in Lahore’s DHA Phase 2, founder and master artist Sahar uses a fully manual technique — no electric device, just a steady hand and years of training in facial symmetry and fine-art proportions.
Because the skin is broken during the process, your body initiates a healing response. This is where the journey begins.
The Microblading Healing Timeline: Day by Day
Days 1 to 2: Bold and Beautiful
Your brows will appear dramatically darker and more defined than your final healed result — sometimes up to 40% darker. This is normal. The pigment sits on top of the skin before it settles into the dermis, and the surrounding tissue is slightly swollen and flushed.
- Mild redness or tenderness around the brow area
- Brows may appear thicker and bolder than intended
- Some minor oozing of lymph fluid (clear, not blood) is normal
What to do: Gently blot any lymph fluid with a clean cotton pad. Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your artist. Do not get brows wet.
Days 3 to 5: The Darkening Phase
This is the stage that surprises most people. The strokes look very dark, sometimes almost black, and the skin around them begins to tighten.
Do not panic. This is simply oxidation — the pigment reacting with oxygen as your skin heals over it. Think of it as a scab forming at pigment level.
- Colour reaches peak darkness
- Skin may feel tight and slightly uncomfortable
- Itching begins as the healing layer forms
Days 5 to 10: The Flaking Stage
This is the most visually alarming stage — and the most critical one for your aftercare routine. Your brows will begin to flake, peel, and shed the outer healed layer of skin. Underneath, the strokes will look faded, lighter, or even patchy.
Critical rule: Never pick, scratch, or peel the flaking skin. Doing so pulls pigment out of the dermis before it has bonded, leading to patchy gaps and potentially scarring.
- Brows may look 30 to 50% lighter than Day 1 — this is expected
- Some strokes may appear to disappear entirely
- Skin looks powdery or ‘ghostly’ in the brow area
Days 10 to 14: The Ghost Brow Stage
Your brows will look extremely faint — sometimes almost invisible. This is known as the ‘ghost brow’ phase and is one of the most misunderstood stages of the healing process. The outer healed layer has shed, but the pigment deep in the dermis has not yet fully surfaced.
Trust the process. The pigment is bonding. It will re-emerge.
Weeks 3 to 6: The Reveal
The pigment gradually resurfaces as your skin regenerates. By weeks four to six, your true healed result is visible — softer, more natural, and perfectly integrated with your skin tone.
This is when you will have your top-up (touch-up) appointment at GetLashed, which is included in your microblading package. Any gaps or uneven areas are corrected at this stage.
Microblading Aftercare Rules: The Non-Negotiables
What to Do
- Keep brows completely dry for the first 7 to 10 days
- Apply the aftercare balm provided by your artist — a thin layer, twice daily, after Day 3
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase
- Let flaking happen naturally
- Stay out of direct sunlight
What Not to Do
- Do not wet brows in the shower — use a face shield or lean back
- Do not apply makeup, tint, or any product to the brow area
- Do not swim or visit a sauna for at least 4 weeks
- Do not exercise heavily in the first week (sweat opens pores and pushes pigment out)
- Do not pick, scratch, or peel — ever
- Do not apply sunscreen directly on the brows until fully healed
Will Microblading Look Good on My Skin Type?
Skin type plays a significant role in how microblading heals and how long it lasts.
- Normal to dry skin: Best candidates. Pigment holds crisply and strokes remain defined. Longevity of 12 to 18 months is typical.
- Combination or oily T-zone skin: Brows may heal with a slightly softer, more powdery appearance. A retouch may be needed closer to the 12-month mark.
- Very oily skin: Microblading can still work, but Sahar may recommend Ombre Powder Brows or Combo Brows for longer-lasting, more defined results.
Not sure which technique is right for your skin? Book a consultation at GetLashed and Sahar will assess your skin and recommend the best brow treatment for your face shape and lifestyle.
When Should You Be Concerned?
Microblading healing is almost always straightforward, but here are signs that warrant a call to your artist:
- Excessive redness or swelling that worsens after Day 3 rather than improving
- Yellow or green discharge (which may indicate infection — rare but possible)
- Significant itching or burning beyond the normal healing itch
- Blistering or raised skin
If anything feels wrong, contact GetLashed directly. Do not self-medicate or apply random products to the area without artist guidance.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
Well-cared-for microblading at GetLashed lasts between 12 and 18 months before a colour refresh is recommended. Factors that affect longevity include:
- Skin type (oily skin fades faster)
- Sun exposure (UV breaks down pigment)
- Skincare products — retinol, AHAs, and glycolic acid can accelerate fading
- How closely you follow the aftercare protocol
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does microblading take to heal fully?
Full skin healing takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. However, the outer layers heal within 10 to 14 days. The 6-week mark is when your true result is visible, which is why the touch-up appointment is scheduled at that time.
Is microblading painful?
A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. Most clients describe the sensation as light scratching rather than pain. The process at GetLashed is designed to be as comfortable as possible.
Can I wear makeup after microblading?
Avoid applying any makeup, including brow pencils or powders, directly on the treated area for at least 10 to 14 days, or until all flaking has stopped. You can wear makeup on the rest of your face normally.
My brows disappeared after healing — is this normal?
Yes. The ghost brow phase around Days 10 to 14 is entirely normal. The pigment settles into the dermis and may appear invisible briefly before it resurfaces. Your touch-up appointment corrects any areas that did not retain pigment.
What is the difference between microblading and ombre powder brows?
Microblading uses individual hair strokes for a natural, defined look. Ombre powder brows use a shading technique for a soft, filled-in gradient — similar to the look achieved with brow powder. Combo Brows combine both. If you have oily skin, ombre or combo brows may give you a longer-lasting result.
